Project Description
2021 Southeast
Asian Collaborative Meeting on Safeguarding ICH
Background
The Southeast Asia Collaborative Meeting on Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage aims to identify the current situation and issues of ICH stakeholders’ information and their networks in the region. In general, ICH information pertains to various kinds of data related to living heritage such as videos, photos, sound materials, books, events, exhibitions, and details about institutions, communities, groups, and individuals working on or whose work has significant relevance to living heritage. Building a system for dissemination of ICH information is a recognized measure for ICH safeguarding, as stated in the UNESCO 2003 Convention, because it emphasizes the involvement of communities, groups, and individuals in the ICH field and contributes to raising public awareness on the importance of living heritage and capacity-building of stakeholders in the field amidst threatening processes of globalization. Since the production and exchange of ICH information is based on the initiative to foster a wider understanding of living heritage and collaboration, it also reinforces Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all (SDG 4) and strengthening global partnership for sustainable development (SDG 17).
